Day 5: Scoot 

 

Goal:

To get students up and moving while providing an opportunity to think at a higher level

When:

During small and whole group instruction, intervention time 

Materials:

  • Chart Paper
  • Pencils
  • Timer
  • Content*

*Use content suggestion or you may use content of your choosing. Just be purposeful!

Instructions:

  1. Students will be placed into groups of 4. 
  2. You will need 1 large sheet of chart paper for each group. This chart paper will be placed on the table or across the desks of the students. This activity may also be done on the floor.
  3. Partition the paper into 4 squares. In each square, write a vocabulary word or value.
  4. A student will begin at a square. Have students to write their names to show their beginning square. Each student in the group should also use a different color.
  5. Set your timer for 1-2 minutes.
  6. The student will complete the content in the square.
  7. When time is up, you say "SCOOT". The students will scoot to the left and add something different to the square.
  8. Repeat the process until all students are back at the original square.
  9. Students will review their square to ensure all answers are correct.
  10. Discuss any aha moments at their tables and as a whole group.
