Day 4: Number Links

 

Goal:

Represent as many connections as possible with value or vocabulary word given

When:

During small and whole group instruction, intervention time, and bell ringer

Materials:

  • Chart Paper
  • Markers
  • Timer
  • Content*

*Use content suggestion or you may use content of your choosing. Just be purposeful!

Instructions:

  1. On a sheet of chart paper, write a value or vocabulary word at the top of the paper. It should be large enough for all students in the group to see.
  2. Place chart paper on the wall. (Students may work on the floor or table.)
  3. Place students into groups of 4-5.
  4. Give students markers to show their work. All group members in a single group should have the same-colored markers. (Group 1: Red Markers, Group 2: Green Markers, Group 3: Blue Markers, Group 4: Black Markers...)
  5. Each group will start at an assigned sheet of chart paper. 
  6. Set the timer for 1-2 minutes.
  7. Students will write down as much as they can to describe the value or vocabulary word on the page. 
  8. After time is up, the entire group moves to the next sheet of chart paper. (THEY MUST TAKE THE MARKER WITH THEM TO WRITE ON THE NEXT POSTER. This allows you to easily see the work from each group.) 
  9. Set the timer, and repeat the process until group members return to the original sheet of chart paper.
  10. Students review their paper.
  11. Discuss any aha moments at their tables and as a whole group.
